What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. (Psalm 8:4-8)

The Psalmist here pens an articulately beautiful question, what is man? The question isn’t about defining the character of manhood or what makes mankind exist. It is about how God sees us.

When you understand how God sees us, the question is shocking. Out of all the infinite number of things and problems God could consider, it’s amazing to ponder that God thinks about you and me.

Not only that, but the Psalmist continued with his elaborate description by reminding us that God visits us. He wants a relationship and connection with His children.

The Psalmist then explained three ways that God wants to bless us:

- First, to crown us with glory and honor. God wants to give worth and purpose to everyone who listens and follows His direction.

- Second, the Psalmist reminds us that God made man to have dominion over the works of His hands. Dominion means to be in charge or in control. God created the world, but because of His great love for us, He gave us the world to control and take care of.

- Last, we are reminded that God placed all things under his feet. That means that no matter what comes against us, we have been given authority to make it come into alignment with the Word.

Practical Application

- God has given you authority and purpose. You are not where you are by accident. You have been sent on divine assignment. Treat every day of your life with great respect. Before you begin your day, remind yourself: “I have authority; I have purpose and I am here for a reason!”

Genesis 1:26; Psalm 115:16
