Miracles in the Name of Jesus

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. (Acts 4:10)

Peter boldly declared that the miracle of the crippled man standing was done "by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth." The early church understood something that modern Christianity often misses. The blood of Jesus purchased our freedom and authority, but the Name enforces it.

The apostles were never persecuted for preaching about forgiveness, love, or mercy. Instead, they were beaten, threatened, killed, and told to stop preaching in the name of Jesus because hell recognizes the authority in His name.

As seen in Acts 4, the name of Jesus brings healing. Notice that Peter refused to take credit for this miraculous event. He directed everyone's attention solely to the name of Jesus. Using the name of Jesus isn't just a ritual we perform; it's about understanding the delegated authority given to us. Demons aren't bothered by your religious activities. They tremble when Jesus's name is spoken. Satan isn't scared of sermons about being "a better you." He's terrified when believers declare Jesus' authority in heaven, on earth, and in hell.

Practical Application

Don't accept sickness. Command it to leave in the name of Jesus. Don't accept oppression. Command it to leave in the name of Jesus. Anything that doesn't happen in Heaven, we have the authority to use Jesus' name and see it change.

Acts 3:6; Acts 2:22
