But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. (Acts 8:12)
Luke shared the stories of the early church in the book of Acts. One character he mentions is Phillip. Phillip was a well-known preacher, but when he preached, he didn't use motivational quotes, personal stories, or clever ideas. Instead, he focused on two incredibly powerful, life-changing messages: the kingdom of God and Jesus Christ. The impact of these two messages was so strong that men and women were saved and baptized right then and there.
The Kingdom of God is God's rule, His system, and His way of doing things. It is God's blueprint for what He wants to accomplish on earth, but you don't just need a blueprint—you need the key to make it happen. The authority of the name of Jesus is the key to allowing the Kingdom to operate in every part of your life.
The book of Acts isn't just about Peter and Paul, but also about Philip, who started serving in the ministry of helps as a deacon and soon began his own evangelistic work. Philip preached boldly in the name of Jesus. He knew where the authority was. The devils didn't move because he shouted louder; they fled when they heard the name of Jesus.
Practical Application
Look for opportunities to speak boldly in the name of Jesus. That doesn't mean you're called to a pulpit or a five-fold ministry role. You are called to preach the authority of Jesus and demonstrate it through your words and the miracles Jesus works through you.
Acts 8:35; Luke 9:2
