Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself! And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord. And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour. Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death. (2 Samuel 6:20-23)
Have you ever had someone not understand your commitment or passion for God?
Maybe it's a family member who doesn't understand why you attend church so often, someone who doesn't see your purpose in serving, or even someone who comments on your willingness to give an offering to your church or a ministry. In this scripture, David was so committed to worshiping God that his wife couldn't comprehend it. His public display of worship before the Lord was not for man's approval but for God's glory. David's wife, Michal, misinterpreted his devotion and focused on the external, viewing David's behavior through her own lens of shame
David's response illustrates that his worship of God was his highest priority. Michal's criticism led to serious consequences. By speaking against what God was doing, she brought barrenness into her life. Not only was she unable to have children, but she also endured a spiritual barrenness that prevented her from receiving what God intended for her.
Practical Application
Guard your words. Just as Michal's words opened an opportunity for the enemy to come against her and attack, you can also open doors to the enemy with your own words. Choose to speak life, encouragement, and honor, especially when you don’t understand what God is doing in someone else’s life.
