And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all. (Ezekiel 37:21-22)

Have you ever experienced someone failing to keep their promise? I’m sure you have.

People can be fickle, and we cannot always trust the words of any individual. That’s very different when it comes to God. He has demonstrated time and again that He will fulfill His Word. Through the prophet Ezekiel, God promised to regather the children of Israel from the nations and bring them back to their land. For years, this seemed impossible due to the dispersion of the Jewish people across the globe and the state of affairs in the Middle East.

However, the rebirth of Israel as a nation in 1948 serves as a modern reminder of God’s ability to keep His promises. Despite opposition and challenges, Israel was restored as a nation in the very land God promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Despite centuries of dispersion, God preserved the Jewish people and brought them back to their land, just as He promised. Even in the face of opposition—such as the immediate attacks from surrounding nations in 1948—Israel’s survival and ongoing presence in the land reflect God’s protection and purpose. No matter how chaotic or uncertain the world may appear, God is carrying out His plans for His people and His glory. God is always faithful to His promises. If He has declared it, He will bring it to pass in His perfect timing.

Practical Application

What has God promised you that you haven’t seen come to pass yet? Be encouraged that what God has promised, God will do in His timing. Remind yourself of God’s promise to Israel and all other patriarchs in the Bible. Even when it seemed impossible, God was faithful to do it.
