Kingdom First

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (Matthew 6:33-34)

Jesus didn’t tell us to seek the Kingdom only when things are going badly or when you get a bad report. He instructed us to seek the Kingdom first — before your plans, before the problem, and before your panic. God doesn’t want you living in survival mode; He wants you living in the character of a victor. He promises that when you put His Kingdom first, making His priorities higher than the pressure of your problems, everything else falls into place.

Jesus went on to say that “sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” That means each day has its own battles, bruises, and victories. The enemy never takes a day off, but neither does the Holy Spirit. The enemy may bring new plots, but God brings new power. You can never fight today’s problems with yesterday’s Word or prayer. That is why you need to spend time every day reading God’s Word and seeking His face in prayer.

If you find yourself full of worry, learn to flip the script. Worry is misplaced worship. When you focus on the things you can’t control, you exalt anxiety above authority. That’s why Jesus says to “take no thought” for tomorrow. When you align your thinking with Him, faith defeats your fear, and peace replaces your panic.

Practical Application

Don’t let fears about tomorrow influence your today. When you feel tempted to worry about the future, say: “I refuse to take this thought. I choose to put my mind on Jesus.”

Romans 14:17; Luke 12:31
