Willful Sin Has a Cost

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. (Hebrews 10:26-27)

God's righteousness bestowed upon us is not a license to willfully rebel against His way of doing things. God’s grace empowers us to live clean, free lives rather than careless and rebellious ones.

If you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are not an “old sinner saved by grace.” You once were a sinner, and now you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. You are no longer fighting for God’s love and attention; He has already given it to you.

The sin referred to in Hebrews 10 is not merely momentary lapses in judgment or stumbling in a particular area; it involves repeated, willful sin that individuals knowingly engage in.

When you willfully rebel against God, you step out of His protection and guidance and align yourself with the adversary. Willful sin comes with a cost and has many consequences. It steals your peace, joy, and confidence while opening the door to fear and death.

God didn’t put rules and commands in His Word to hold you back; He desires you to move forward in every area of your life. That’s why He established boundaries in His Word, ensuring that you are protected, provided for, and able to walk in the fullness of your calling.

Practical Application

Are you treating grace as a license to indulge your flesh? Or are you living as someone who truly values Jesus’ sacrifice? Decide to repent swiftly when the Holy Spirit convicts you. Do whatever it takes to guard your heart against opportunities to stumble.

2 Peter 2:20; 1 John 5:16
