Seek Long Enough to Find

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. (Matthew 7:7)
We do not have it all together. We see in part. We know in part. The picture we are working with is real but incomplete. That means if you want more light, more revelation, and more understanding of what God is doing in your life, you are going to have to do something about it. You are going to have to spend a significant amount of time seeking.
Jesus said it plainly. Ask, and it shall be given. Seek, and you shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened. Most people read that and stop at the promise. They hear "you shall find" and think the finding comes quickly and easily. But look closer at what He actually said. He did not just say find. He said, “Seek, and you shall find.” Seeking comes before finding, and there is no shortcut around it.
The key is not just what you seek. The key is that you seek long enough. That is where most believers fall short. They seek for a little while, do not get the answer they were looking for on their timetable, and stop. They conclude that either God is not speaking or the answer is not there. But Jesus never put a time limit on the seeking. He just said, "Seek, and you will find.” The promise is attached to your willingness to pursue, not to a deadline. This is especially true when it comes to revelation and understanding.
Light does not always come the moment you ask for it. Sometimes God is doing something in you through the process of seeking itself. He is building hunger. He is developing patience. He is teaching you to press past the surface level and go deeper into His Word and His presence. The seeking is not wasted time. It is preparation time. Do not be the person who knocks twice and walks away from the door. Keep knocking. Keep asking. Keep seeking. The promise from the mouth of Jesus Himself is that the door will open. The answer will come. The revelation will break through. But you must be willing to persevere long enough to receive it.
Practical Application
- Is there an area where you have been seeking God for understanding or direction and have grown impatient? Recommit today to the pursuit. Set aside specific time to seek God on that matter through prayer, the Word, and waiting on the Holy Spirit. Stay at it.
