When the Storm isn’t Your Fault

Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them, And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives. Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul. (Acts 27:9-11)

Many times, the trouble you face is not your fault. Often, the issues we encounter come from others' decisions or their refusal to follow what God has told them.Paul wasn’t running from God or disobeying His plan; he was obeying God when he found himself in a dangerous situation. Paul even received a word from the Holy Ghost about how to protect the ship and shared that word of wisdom with the people in power, but they refused to listen. Those in charge believed they had more experience and a more extended history with ships, so they thought they knew better. No matter how much learning or experience you have, it cannot compare to the knowledge and wisdom from the Holy Spirit.

Paul warned them and obeyed what the Holy Spirit instructed him to say. Because those in authority ignored him, he still found himself in a difficult situation, but he was protected in the midst of it.The storms you face in life may not always be caused by anything you did. Just remember, you can survive every storm because you live in peace and follow God. God will always make a way, even when there seems to be no way, for the believer whose heart is set on Him.

Practical Application

You might be pulled into others' consequences because they refuse to heed to the Holy Spirit. Continue speaking what God reveals to you. Keep following what the Holy Spirit shares. Remember that, due to your faithfulness, you may still face a storm, but you’ll come through better on the other side.

Psalm 25:14; 2 Kings 6:9
