What You Hear is What You Have

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
Faith doesn’t happen in random moments. It results from consistently hearing the Word of God.Notice that Paul did not say that faith comes by “having heard” the Word of God; it comes through active hearing. That means it’s an ongoing process where believers make sure they are regularly hearing God’s Word spoken. It’s not about what you heard at church last Sunday; it’s what you’re hearing right now, today, that shapes your faith.
That also means you can’t mix Heaven’s truth with the world’s talk. When you only partly listen to God’s Word but also focus on every trending video, every worst-case scenario on the news, and every opinion from family members, you aren’t getting the pure Word of God. Faith thrives on purity. Fear feeds on the pollution of the mind.
When you focus more on what the devil is doing by attacking you than on what Jesus has already done for you, your words promote the wrong kingdom and your ears hear the wrong message. Stop giving the devil a platform by emphasizing how evil he is and what he is doing. Every time you speak fear and listen to it, you energize what you were meant to rebuke. That’s why the Word must always be louder than your worry. You need to drown out every doubt with your declarations of faith, empowered by the Word of God. Your ears influence the atmosphere of your heart, and that atmosphere determines your outcome. Turn up the volume of faith until all other noise fades away.
Practical Application
Make it a priority to guard what you hear. What are you allowing into your ears? Choose sermons, songs, and conversations that strengthen your faith. Not every “gospel song” is faith-filled, nor is every sermon good doctrine. Be intentional about what you let into your ears.
