This is That

But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. (Acts 2:16-17)
When Peter stood up, he didn't say, “Let me tell you what I think.” He said, “This is that.” He reached into Scripture and brought a promise into the present moment. That is faith. Faith agrees with God’s Word and expects it to come to pass. Joel promised an outpouring of the Spirit on all flesh. Peter declared that the promise had arrived. And that phrase all flesh matters more than most realize. Under the Old Covenant, the Spirit came upon prophets, priests, and kings. The average person had to rely on someone else’s access. But Pentecost changed everything. God had now poured out His Spirit on anyone willing to believe and receive. That means you don’t have to live spiritually dependent on someone else’s connection to God. You are called to have your own relationship with the Holy Ghost. The Spirit-filled life isn’t a spectator sport. It’s not just “watch the anointed do ministry.” It’s God who fills believers, equipping them with the Holy Spirit.
The word pour in Acts 2:16 is powerful. It creates the image of a constant, overwhelming stream. God wasn’t promising a drip; He was promising a flow.
Peter said this outpouring is a reality of the last days. In other words, as darkness grows on the earth, God’s answer isn’t to make the Church quieter. It’s to make the Church fuller. If you want to stay steady in unstable days, you need the Spirit. You need the Helper. You need the One who knows the future and can lead you in peace.
Practical Application
Take a moment today to thank God for the power of the Holy Spirit. Then, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you once more. Be filled to overflowing so His power can flow out everywhere you go today.
Joel 2:28; Isaiah 44:3
