The Persistency of the Enemy

And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence. (Luke 4:9)

In Luke 4:9, the enemy had already attacked Jesus once, and it didn’t work. However, the devil doesn’t give up easily. My spiritual father, Reverend Kenneth E. Hagin, said, “One good thing I can say about the devil is that he is persistent.”

The devil came back to Jesus with the same line he did the last time. He didn’t even try anything new. He said, “If you are the son of God.”

The enemy was trying to make Jesus question His identity. If Jesus would question His identity, He would let go of His authority and Satan would take major territory in His life.

The enemy will lie to you to get you to question your identity.

He will say “If you really were healed, why do you have that symptom again?” Many people will question if they are the healed, as Scripture says, or if they never were healed to begin with. Yes, you were healed. But the enemy brought some symptoms to see if he could trick you into questioning your identity.

Don’t let him. Our response should be, “Are you here again for another beating? I know what the Word says, and I know who I am in Christ!”

Now, the devil is persistent. He will continue to attack until he realizes that none of his tricks are going to stick to you. After the devil tried attacking Jesus’ identity three times, and Jesus responded each time with what the Word says, we see that the devil left Him for a season.

The enemy will be persistent in his attacks, but you must be as persistent in speaking the Word. Don’t give up speaking the Word and don’t forget who you are in Christ.

Practical Application

- What Scriptures do you have prepared to respond to the devil when he attacks your identity? Remind yourself of who you are by looking up Scriptures that say in Christ, in Him or in whom and be persistent with speaking the Word when the devil is persistent in His attacks.

1 Peter 5:8; John 8:44
