The Name Above Every Name

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth. (Philippians 2:8-10)

His name is above every other name. That means there is no realm where His authority ends. Every mountain, every minute, and every molecule must bow to His name. So, when you say, “in Jesus’ name,” you’re not just reciting a religious phrase; you are connecting with His authority and character.

Paul was writing that every name must bow to Jesus’ authority. Everything has a name—poison, cancer, depression, addiction, debt, and rejection—all have names. Scripture makes it clear that all names must bow to the name of Jesus. It’s not just every name, but also every place. Paul explained that even demonic powers above, any powers on the earth, and even anything under the earth must bow to His authority.

When you stand in the authority of Jesus’ Name, you’re not begging darkness to flee; you’re commanding it to submit. When you say, “in Jesus’ name,” it is just as if Jesus were praying, and Heaven backs it with full authority.

Practical Application

Don’t let “in Jesus’ name” just be the end of your prayers; see it as an authority you declare with faith. Jesus has given you delegated authority to use His name. So, use it when fear rises or when a bad report is spoken. When you pray in Jesus’ name, it is as if Jesus Himself were praying.

Matthew 28:18; Hebrews 2:9
