So David would not remove the ark of the Lord unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite. And the ark of the Lord continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the Lord blessed Obededom, and all his household. (2 Samuel 6:10-11)
When the ark was placed in the house of Obededom, everything changed. The blessing of the Lord affected not only one area of Obededom’s life but flowed into every aspect: his children and grandchildren, his business, and his finances. The blessing of the Lord is meant to extend from one generation to the next, and when God's presence is honored and welcomed in our homes, we become an active example for our children and grandchildren of what honoring God looks like. We must teach the next generation what it means to honor and celebrate God's presence. In a world filled with self-absorbed and self-celebrated mindsets, we must demonstrate what it means to live for the glory of God, not just for ourselves.
The ark was not some magic box; it represented the very presence of God Himself. When we create space for God's presence in our lives by cultivating a relationship with Him through prayer, worship, and obedience, we witness the blessings of God permeate every aspect of our lives.Obededom experienced an overflow of blessings because he honored the presence of God! By prioritizing Him in our lives, and when our family observes us doing so, we establish a lifestyle of honor and love that allows the blessings of the Lord to touch every part of our lives.
Practical Application
Invite and honor God in all aspects of your life, including your home, business, and personal pursuits. Serve as an example of what a life looks like when one genuinely honors and celebrates God.
