Sons and Daughters Prophesy

And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Acts 2:18-21)

When God pours out His Spirit, He also awakens your voice. He fills you so you can speak life, speak truth, and speak under the power of the Holy Spirit. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not limited to a select few. God said He would pour out His Spirit on servants and handmaidens. That means men and women, young and old, known and unknown, people with platforms and people with blue-collar jobs. God was saying everyone would now have access.

That is why prophecy is mentioned along with the outpouring. Prophecy is not only about predicting the future. It is speaking by inspiration. It is a Spirit-breathed utterance. It is God using a human voice to edify, exhort, encourage, and direct.

The key here is that you cannot prophesy silently. You cannot speak under the Spirit’s inspiration without speaking aloud. God was declaring that He was empowering a vocal Church—Spirit-filled people with Spirit-filled mouths. This statement also corrects the false mindset in some churches that limits God’s use of certain individuals. If God said that sons and daughters will prophesy, then it settles the question of whether women can be used vocally by God. Of course they can; the Bible confirms it. This is not a cultural idea; it is a Biblical promise.

Prophecy involves spoken words to people. Tongues can be mysteries to God unless interpreted. But both are Spirit-empowered utterances. Both remind us that God intends to put His Word in our mouths.

Practical Application

Ask the Holy Spirit to make your speech bold and anointed today. Pray that your words build up, encourage, and edify. Pray in the Holy Spirit before you undertake a task or project and ask Him to give you the right words when interacting with people. Obey and be led to speak as the Holy Spirit guides you.
