Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: (Colossians 1:13)

You and I were once a part of the kingdom of darkness and held under the power of darkness. Sin and death reigned and there was nothing we could do in our own power to be free. When Jesus died and rose from the dead, those who believed in Him were also raised to new life. In that act of resurrection, He translated us to the kingdom, or reign, rule, and authority, of Jesus. In Colossians 1:13, the word translated in the Greek means to transfer, carry away, remove from one place to another. Jesus’ victory over death freed us from the authority of the devil and sin’s power.
If believers don’t take authority in prayer, the devils still exerts his power. Jesus paid for our victory. However, if we don’t enforce our victory through prayer, the devil does what he’s always done: steals, kills, and destroys.
God’s Kingdom and God’s will are not automatic in the believer's life. Our job is to take authority as the church of the Lord Jesus Christ and bring Heaven’s way and Heaven’s culture into earthly situations.
We do this by praying with authority and confidence by the understanding that Jesus has given us positions in His Kingdom and taking those positions seriously. Believers who don’t pray with confidence, power, and authority fail to enforce Jesus’ victory over Satan and by default allow a lower kingdom to affect their lives.
Practical Application
Pray with authority and confidence, understanding that you are a part of the Kingdom of Jesus! The kingdom of darkness no longer has any power over you.
