One Word from Jesus

And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. (Matthew 14:28-29)

Peter was surrounded by eleven other men who all saw the same storm. They shared the same fears and reacted in the same way, but one man chose to jump out of the boat.

He wasn’t waiting for favorable weather or conditions; he was jumping. Faith doesn’t wait for calm seas. Faith doesn’t wait for the economy to change. Faith doesn’t wait for circumstances to seem favorable in the natural. Faith obeys what God says immediately, knowing that He is above the circumstances. Faith moves when God says to move. Sometimes faith appears reckless to people who are still stuck, sitting in the boat. But to those who love Him and follow Him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength, obedience is the only logical choice when God says “come.” When Jesus told Peter, “Come,” it was more than just permission; it was power and strength.

The same God who spoke light into existence when there was only darkness, who divided the earth and seas with a simple declaration, speaks into your life—creation must obey whatever He says. You don’t need a whole paragraph from God to have the power to move forward; you only need just that one word. If Jesus tells you to “come,” then no natural force can stop you from advancing. Now, notice that when Peter jumped out of the boat, the waves didn’t stop and the wind didn’t cease. Those negative conditions were still present around him, but they didn’t affect him.

You don’t need favorable conditions to walk in victory; you need the right focus. Don’t analyze the waves or try to judge when the wind will change. Keep your mind on the Word of God and the last thing He told you to do. When you build your life around hearing and obeying the Word, you are no longer subject to the issues happening in our world.

Practical Application

When God speaks, respond immediately. Don’t debate, don’t delay—act with bold faith. Delay often prevents the miraculous.
