And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath. (Mark 4:24-25)

In Mark 4:24-25, Jesus was teaching about being attentive and honoring the Word of God.

He encouraged us to take heed of what we hear, because the degree to which we measure, or estimate, the Word of God will be the degree by which it is measured back to us.

In other words, the more attentively and actively we listen to God's Word, the more we will understand and apply it to our lives. Scripture is clear that there is a direct correlation between the amount of revelation we receive from God and the amount of effort we put into seeking it and hungering for His Truth.

Jesus said those who have, will be given more, and those who do not have, will have even what they have taken away. So, don’t blame God or your pastor if you feel stuck in a spiritual rut. Your spiritual growth and understanding of the Word are directly linked to the effort you put into receiving it.

Growth begins by deciding to increase the measure of effort you put into receiving and understanding God’s Word.

Practical Application

Be intentional in your daily Bible study and reading. It's easy for to get caught up in your busy life and neglect spending time in God's Word, but Mark 4:24-25 reminds us of the importance of prioritizing God’s Word. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand God's Word and gain revelation from your reading as you diligently pursue knowing God more.
