If They are Not Against Us, They are For Us

And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is on our part. For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward. (Mark 9:38-41)

There has always been infighting in the body of Christ, even from the very beginning.

Here in Mark 9:38-41, John came running to Jesus to tell him that they found someone casting out demons in the name of Jesus. The disciples’ response to the man who was delivering people through the name of Jesus was to forbid him from doing so.

When they told Jesus what they had done, He corrected them.

He said it doesn't matter if he isn't in our “camp,” if he believes in Me, the miracles are good. Anyone who has a relationship with Jesus can do supernatural miracles in Jesus’ name.

It doesn't matter if you are a Baptist or Word of Faith or Presbyterian or anything; the bottom line is, “Are you born again, and do you have authority in Jesus' name?"

He then explained that anyone who blesses someone in the authority of Jesus would receive a reward.

Maybe other Christians don't believe the same way as you do. Perhaps they are off in their doctrine about certain things. However, what unites us all is our belief that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and that we have authority in His name because we have a relationship with Him.

Practical Application – Do you know someone who holds different doctrinal positions than you? Pray for those you know who belong to other denominations. Pray that they will operate in their authority and power in the name of Jesus.

Psalm 133:1; Ephesians 4:3
