Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. (Philippians 3:13-15)
Have you ever said, “I should have seen that coming”? I think we've all been there at some point. It’s often said that hindsight is 20/20. After replaying conversations, decisions, and the numerous warnings we ignored, everything makes sense. But what if you could have foresight instead? What if God has been trying to tell us all along what was ahead, and because we were so focused on looking behind, we missed it?
Paul wrote to the church in Philippi clearly, stating that he had one focus in life. One thing he was determined to do—not fourteen things, not even three. What he shared wasn't a complicated plan. He found that success in life meant forgetting what was behind and moving forward toward what’s ahead. Because if you’re constantly looking behind you, you'll get stuck in regret, paralyzed by shame, or held back by what you can’t change.
When people fail, they often relive, analyze, and obsess over the experience. The enemy would love nothing more than to keep you stuck in overthinking. God doesn't just want to forgive and heal your past; He also wants to reveal your future and lead you into it.
God is not finished with you yet. He has a plan for your future. The prize of His high calling isn’t about being perfect; it’s about your pursuit. If you're pressing forward, you're making progress.
Practical Application
Ask the Holy Spirit today, “What is in front of me that I’ve been ignoring?” Stop obsessing over past mistakes, missed opportunities, and the pain of regret. Also, don’t wait until what God is moving you to do is in hindsight. Start acting on what He’s showing you now, even if it feels small.
