Be it Unto Me

And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. (Luke 1:38)

This is one of the most powerful statements of faith in the entire Bible. Mary did not fully understand how this was going to happen. She said so herself. But she chose to trust God’s Word despite her confusion. "Be it unto me according to Your word.”

She did not say, "Let me think about it." She did not say, "Give me a sign first." She did not say, "I'll believe it when I see it." She said, “Whatever you said, that is what I am going with.”

That is what faith truly looks like. It is not the absence of questions. Mary had questions. Faith is the choice to trust what God said, even when you don’t yet know how it will happen. And look at what happened after she made that declaration. The Holy Spirit came upon her, and the Word became flesh. Her agreement with God was what opened the door. The miracle was waiting for her yes.

There are things God has spoken to you—through His Word, through the Holy Spirit, or through a promise He has placed in your heart—that are waiting for your response, not perfect conditions. They don’t wait for you to figure out the mechanics. They wait for you to say, like Mary, “Be it unto me according to Your Word.” When a faith-filled believer stands firmly on what God said and refuses to back down, God’s power activates on their behalf.

Practical Application

What has God told you that you've been hesitant to fully agree with? Stop waiting for the how. Say it out loud today, "Be it unto me according to Your Word." That is not presumption. That is faith. And that spoken faith can move mountains on your behalf.

Luke 1:45; John 2:5
