Greater Than John

For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. (Matthew 11:10-11)
Jesus emphatically stated that John was the greatest person to ever walk on this earth, born of a woman. That’s quite a compliment! Yet, He went on to say that even the least of those who belong to the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than John.
John was the best human any mother could produce in the Old Covenant before the New birth. But people of “the Kingdom” have a greater potential than John ever had. Why? Because being born again changes every possibility for believers. It is not because you’re greater or better than the Old Testament characters, but rather it is because your covenant is.
John pointed the way to Jesus; you carry Him. John announced that the Kingdom of God is coming, and you are called to demonstrate that it is here.
John operated when the Holy Spirit came upon him to preach and prophesy. You are the temple of the Holy Ghost. He lives in you, and if you have received the baptism of the Holy Ghost, He is also upon you. You’re not a better person because of your skills, training, or cultural background, but because, as a New Covenant believer, you are endued with power from on high.
Practical Application
Walk boldly in your Kingdom identity. Remember that greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
Matthew 3:11; Luke 7:28
