God’s Not Done with Me Yet

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.  (Philippians 1:6)

God intends to complete what He began in you. Becoming mature in faith doesn’t happen the moment you say yes to Jesus. It happens through a process of allowing the Holy Spirit to work in you and develop you, finishing what He has started.

However, notice that Paul didn’t say he was confident the believer would finish strong or that the Christian would perform better for God. Paul was confident that GOD would carry out the growth process as the believer follows, obeys, and leans on Him. The moment you were saved, God began the growth process to mature and develop you into someone He can use for His purposes.

This is a lifelong journey—the process of becoming more like Jesus and setting better examples of Him. Transformation shows in our discipline as we quickly obey what the Holy Spirit tells us to do. While we are on this earth, we will always be “under construction,” but God doesn’t leave projects unfinished. He has never abandoned one yet.

So, when you notice a flaw, problem, or a moment when you’re tempted to condemn yourself and get upset, quickly turn to God and remind yourself that you’re under construction and God is still working on perfecting what He started.

Practical Application

Trust in God’s timing and process to develop you. When God tells you to do something, decide to do it promptly and thoroughly. Don’t delay.

1 Corinthians 1:8; 1 Thessalonians 5:23
