And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. (Romans 1:23)

God is incorruptible. That means He is immortal. He doesn’t decay; He never dies, and He never changes. Still, Romans 1:23 tells us people changed the understanding of the immortality of God. They tried to make Him into an image or a man-created thing.
The word changed is the Greek word allasso, which means to make something different from the way God created it. When we make decisions that go against God's will, wisdom, and knowledge, we are essentially saying we are as wise and knowledgeable as God Almighty, and we are our own gods.
The essence of every sin is making or doing things differently than the way God designed them and intended them to be.
When we exchange God's will, wisdom, and knowledge for our own, we trade something of great value for something of little value. Let’s call it what it is. Choosing to value our opinions or desires above God’s is sin.
Those who view themselves as their own god are quickly fallen. Those who trust in their own wickedness and deceitfulness to achieve worldly success will suffer from tremendous pressure and stress that comes with self-glorification.
However, when God promotes, when God provides, and when God’s plans work, there is blessing, peace, prosperity, and purpose.
Practical Application
Ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom about how to align your decisions and actions with God's will, wisdom, and knowledge. Admit that you are not the ultimate authority of your life; God is. Keep God and His Word first. God is God and you are not! Don’t redefine things God has already defined!
