Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (1 Peter 5:6-7)

Having been in the ministry for over 50 years, I have learned the importance of discerning “due time.” Just because God gives you a direction and revelation doesn’t mean now is the time to act on it. Peter began this verse by saying that we must “humble” ourselves.

Humility isn't about thinking less of yourself; it's about thinking of yourself less and others more. Pride tends to move quickly, while humility waits for God’s timing.Due timing is God’s timing. You can have the right plan but the wrong timing. It isn't about your clock, calendar, or schedule. You can be early for what God wants to do or late when following your own desires and plans. “Due time” is when you step into the plan without unnecessary battles or backlash.

When you “cast” your care on the Lord, you are willing to wait for His timing. In Greek, casting means to hurl aggressively, throw forcefully, or fling away from oneself. That means once you put it in the Lord’s hands, you stop striving to find the right equation or opportunity; you simply lean in to follow His direction and wait on His timing.

Are you worried about your finances? Cast it on the Lord.Concerned about your children? Cast it on Him.

You don’t have to figure everything out; you need to learn to hear Him clearly and follow His guidance.

Practical Application

When you feel led to do something that God places on your heart, make it a habit to ask, “Do you want me to do this now?” Don’t move too quickly causing you get out of God’s will. Wait for peace and God’s timing.

James 4:10; Matthew 23:12
