Finding Favor

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. (Daniel 1:8-9)

Daniel made a quiet, decisive stand—not with rebellion or with a loud spectacle, but rather by refusing to give in. His desire to follow God was a private decision with a very public consequence. Daniel’s decision was made before any conflict. He had already chosen to follow God, refusing to compromise. This wasn’t a spontaneous, spur-of-the-moment decision he made in the heat of the moment. Daniel had determined to be disciplined and follow God’s instructions. When temptation shows up in your life, it’s too late to decide how you are going to respond. You need to determine and make that decision well before you find yourself in the fire.

Because Daniel was committed to following God with all his heart, soul, and mind, God was also committed to showing him favor, regardless of his circumstances or the challenges he faced.

Even in Babylon, Daniel found favor, support, and kindness from people who didn’t share his beliefs. God can move hearts in our favor when we follow His Word.

When the world came against him, Daniel didn’t throw a tantrum. He respectfully requested to live out his faith without compromise. Holiness isn’t about how loudly you protest, but how firm you are in your commitment to live for God.

Practical Application

When seeking favor, are you trying to manipulate the system or following the guidance of the Holy Spirit? God has already prepared favor for you. Tap into it by obeying His Word and His way.

Genesis 39:21; Psalm 106:46
