Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet. (Matthew 21:43-46)

In Matthew 21:43-46, Jesus was talking about Himself and those to whom God sent Him. He is the stone that the builders rejected. As the Pharisees listened to Jesus’ parables, they assumed Jesus was talking about them, and not in a good way. So, they got offended.

Offense has an interesting way of leading people into assumptions. Offense makes you feel like everything that everyone says is against you. You get very defensive and look for ways to attack back. Some of the parable was about them, but some of it was about us.

The phrase “And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken” in the Greek is literally translated whoever will fall upon Jesus, will become new. That is my story and the story of anyone who ever received Christ. We fell upon Him, and He made us new creatures. We were no longer who we used to be. In Christ, we are completely new creatures.

For those who receive this revelation, they have the hope of newness of life.

For those who reject and fight against Jesus and His church, “it will grind him to powder.”

Practical Application

Jesus has not given those who believe in Him a better life. He has given them a new one—entirely different from the old. We must learn to focus on living as a new creation and not give into any focus on our old nature.

2 Corinthians 5:17; Matthew 28:19
