Faith in the Name

And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. (Acts 3:12-16)

How was this man healed? It wasn’t because Peter had charisma or because they understood some deep spiritual truths that others didn’t have access to. It was the Name of Jesus that healed the man. The Name of Jesus was their weapon to defeat what darkness was trying to do. It wasn’t just about using the name; Peter explained that it was “faith in the Name.” Many people will use the name “Jesus,” but few truly believe in the power of His Name. The Greek phrase “faith in His Name” signifies a trust that rests on and draws from His character. Satan attacked this man’s life with bondage, so Peter responded by releasing freedom through the Name of Jesus.

That’s how God has called all believers to act. When the enemy attacks a mind, you declare peace in the Name of Jesus. When darkness tries to bind someone with addiction, you speak deliverance in the Name of Jesus. When the devil brings fear, you release faith into the atmosphere in the Name of Jesus. The early Church wasn’t just playing defense; when they saw the kingdom of darkness trying to do something, they pushed back with the Name of Jesus. The enemy is absolutely terrified of believers who know their authority. The same power that healed through Peter’s declaration of the Name of Jesus is still working today.

Practical Application

The enemy is absolutely terrified of believers who know their authority. The same power that healed through Peter’s declaration of the Name of Jesus is still working today. The Name of Jesus is above every name. That means His Name is still above cancer, depression, addiction, and fear.
