Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:1)

The word justified is dikaioo in Greek. It means rendered just or innocent. Christians have been rendered just and innocent by faith, not by works!

The Greek word for faith is pistis. It means confidence, trust, and assurance. The Jewish believers to whom Paul wrote the epistle of the Romans were accustomed to working to find favor with God. What a change! Now, they didn’t need to offer lambs and heifers and other animals to cover their sins! Jesus did it with His blood, and all they had to do was to receive it by faith!

By faith, we have peace with God. The word peace is eirene in Greek. It means quietness and prosperity. Prosperity is more than money; money is the lowest form of prosperity. If God has kept you alive, given you healthy children or grandchildren, set you in a good church with an anointed pastor, you are enjoying true prosperity!

When God gives you prosperity, it comes with peace. The Bible talks about peace with God and the peace of God. We have peace with God because He is not mad at us anymore. Before Jesus, all of humanity was doomed to live under the authority of sin and death, but because of Jesus, we are not estranged from God. Jesus carried our sins and in exchange, gave us His righteousness. That is peace with God.

The peace of God passes all human understanding. His peace brings calm to every storm and strength to every battle. Peace with God and the peace of God came to us through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Practical Application

Peace is a valuable gift! Because of what Jesus did for us, we have peace with Almighty God! We are no longer His enemies; we are His family and His power in us allows us to navigate all of life’s challenges with peace that passes understanding.

Philippians 4:7; 2 Corinthians 5:18
