Do Not Resuscitate

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses. (Colossians 2:13)

Have you ever been to a funeral? Amid the mourners, flowers, and songs, there is either an urn with ashes or a casket with a body near the front of the room.

Although people have an emotional connection to that body, it is no longer breathing, no longer feeling, no longer able to relate to the loved ones that remain.

Colossians 2:13 tells us that because we are quickened, or given new life, we are dead to our sins. Your past and your previous sinful impulses that once ruled your life no longer matter because they are totally and entirely lifeless. Don't try to resuscitate what God has killed.

If sin tries to show back up in your life, remind it that it’s dead to you. You are entirely free from your unsaved identity. Nothing about who you were before you got saved applies to your life anymore.

Your new life is an identity together with Him. The overflowing, abundant life that Jesus promised is for you to be with Him.

What a wonderful revelation of our identity! We are in Christ and with Him on this journey of a new life together with Him.

Practical Application – Take time today to joyfully confess who you are in Christ. You are a new creature with new power and new possibilities. Don’t try to resuscitate the old man!
