Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents. (Romans 1:29-30)

In Romans 1:29-30, Paul painted a very clear picture of the depravity and issues surrounding sin in our world. He mentioned unrighteousness, fornication (sex outside of marriage), wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity, and more. Then he described how those who walk in such sins act: as whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things and disobedient to parents. These are all character traits of those who live in direct opposition to God’s Word and the principles of Christ.

This list of sins and character traits in these verses is a reminder that without God, people are a mess!

Sin leads people into personal problems that affect every part of their lives, but when most of a population rejects God, civilizations collapse. The destruction of the family and family values ultimately brings the destruction of society. I once called out a well-known organization because one of their goals was to destroy the nuclear family. It is my responsibility as a pastor and a Christian to speak out against such groups that directly oppose the Word of God.

As Christians, we are called to love and forgive those who may be trapped in the state of unrighteousness, but we must also be willing to call out sin and wickedness when we see it. We must stand up for traditional family values that God has ordained, as they are the foundation of any healthy society.

Practical Application

Be mindful organizations you align yourself with in word, deed, or even financial contribution. Don’t want to support causes that are against God’s Word and His way!
