Cast Your Cares

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. (1 Peter 5:7-9)

One of the most important lessons we must learn as believers is to cast all our cares upon the Lord. Why? Because He cares for you.

I want you to realize that Peter did not write this as a suggestion; it’s a command. Anxiety, concerns, and stressors will happen in this life, but they are not things you are designed to carry for an extended period. God wants us to release our anxieties and burdens to Him.

Peter explained further that we are to be sober and vigilant. This means you must think clearly and stay alert like a watchman on duty. Why? Because the enemy acts like a lion, prowling around and seeing who will be willing to take the fear and doubt that he distributes. You should notice that he can’t devour everyone. The devil looks for permission to devour. You must declare, "I am one of those whoms he cannot devour.”

The enemy tricks us into taking his fear, doubt, and pain by isolating us from other believers. That’s why Peter wrote the last part of this text: knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. You are not alone. Others have faced, are facing, and will face similar trials. But just as others have received victory, it’s also available for you!

Practical Application

Remember that God is with you and cares for you. Don’t shoulder the weight of the anxiety, stress, and concern all on your own. Give it to God, trust in Him, and keep moving forward.

James 4:7; 1 Thessalonians 3:3
