Breastplate of Righteousness

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness. (Ephesians 6:11-14)

Part of God's armor in Ephesians chapter six is the “breastplate of righteousness.” This protective chestplate is on you because you know who you are. You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Satan will attack by saying, "Well, you used to be this in the past, and you said and did this sin last month." He can throw all kinds of accusations from your past. You need to respond correctly and say, "But I did 1 John 1:9. I repented of it. He cleansed me from all unrighteousness." When you repent, understand that you are in right standing with God because you followed the Word. Genuine repentance means turning around and going in the opposite direction.

The breastplate of righteousness protects your heart, guards your confidence, and keeps the enemy from convincing you that you do not have access to God. When you know you are righteous, condemnation loses its power. Guilt cannot control your thoughts. Shame cannot guide your prayers. You stand before God clean because of Jesus' blood. That is your legal standing and covenant reality. The devil tries to keep you focused on your past mistakes so you forget what Jesus achieved. He wants you stuck in yesterday's failures so you don’t walk in today's authority. But the breastplate of righteousness blocks that. When you know who you are in Christ, the enemy's accusations bounce off. You don’t need to defend yourself—Jesus already did that. You just have to believe it. Righteousness isn’t something you earn; it’s something you have been given. Walk in it.

Practical Application

The next time the enemy brings up past sin, speak out loud, "I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus. I stand in right standing with my Father." Refuse to let condemnation settle in your mind.

Isaiah 59:17; 2 Corinthians 6:7
