This is Greater

Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. (Matthew 11:11)

Jesus made a statement that completely shifted perspective. John the Baptist was the greatest prophet of the Old Covenant. Jesus said His cousin was the greatest born of any woman up to that point. That’s truly high praise! Yet, Jesus said the least in the Kingdom is greater than he is. This isn’t an insult to John; it’s a declaration of the power that born-again believers are called to walk in.

Old Testament believers were not born again. The Holy Spirit did not dwell in them. You and I operate under a covenant that has been fulfilled, and that makes a difference.

You are not greater than John because of your personal ability, knowledge, or connections. You are greater because of your position. You are in Christ. You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. You are filled with the Spirit. You have access to Heaven like John never had.

Many believers live below this reality because they identify more with the Old Testament struggle than with New Testament authority. They admire David but forget they have what David longed for. They study Elijah but overlook that they have the Holy Spirit within them.

You must see yourself through the eyes of God’s redemption, not through weakness. When Scripture says “in Christ,” that is your address. When Scripture says “in Him,” that is your position. When Scripture says “in whom,” that is your inheritance.

Practical Application

Create a confession based on all the instances of “in Christ,” “in Him,” and “in Whom” found in Scripture. Declare it over yourself, your family, and your loved ones.

1 Corinthians 19; 2 Corinthians 5:17
