Born of Tongues

Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. (1 Corinthians 12:27-28)

The church didn’t start on a stage; it began with prayer. Every position and form of government that God established in the church started with someone praying in the Spirit. The word “diversities” in this passage is the Greek word genos, meaning born of, generated by, or produced from. In other words, every ministry, every anointing, and every office in the Body of Christ is born of tongues. They were conceived in the Spirit by someone praying in the Spirit. Paul wrote, “God hath set some in the church...” That word 'set' means to place, to establish, or to appoint permanently. But how does He set them into those positions? Through Spirit-led prayer.

Every great move of God has happened because someone had been spending time praying in the Spirit. When you pray in the Spirit, you’re not just building yourself up; you’re activating God’s will for the whole church. You’re praying Heaven’s blueprints into existence for ministries, churches, spiritual and natural leaders, and even nations.

In fact, your calling is not an accident. Someone was praying in the Spirit on your behalf. It could have been your grandmother or another family member, or even a missionary across the ocean that you will never meet until you go to Heaven. But make no mistake, someone was praying in the Spirit.

When you understand that, it opens your eyes to the power we have when we pray in the Spirit. When you pray in the Spirit, you might be birthing a missionary, a worship leader, or a great pastor that you’ll never meet on this side of Heaven.

Practical Application

Don’t miss a day of praying in the Holy Spirit. It’s an assignment from God so that you can help birth God’s will. Also, pray in tongues over people you know, expecting that God is using your voice to bring about change.
