Attack the Thief

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12)

Imagine that a thief came into your house every day. He would quietly steal things, walk out, and hope no one noticed. Now, let’s assume you knew the thief was robbing you, and you saw him take your things. What would you do about it? I’m sure you would do what must be done to protect your property. You would become more vigilant and maybe set up cameras or other deterrent devices, right?

Well, Jesus told us that the enemy is a thief. In John 10:10, Jesus says the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. This thief represents Satan and his forces, who are the natural source of all our problems, not people.

When the enemy tempted Jesus in the wilderness, He recognized the source of the temptation and chose to respond with the Word. The time you spend reading the Word, hearing the Word, receiving the Word, speaking the Word, and acting on the Word determines how quickly and how well you will defeat the temptation the enemy brings.

Don’t let him steal from you. Become more vigilant and attack him at every corner with the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

Practical Application

You must understand that your current battle is against spiritual forces, not against people. Equip yourself with the Word of God so you can attack the enemy whenever he shows up.

Ephesians 1:21; Ephesians 3:10
