The Word Lights Your Next Step

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105)
Notice what the psalmist did not say. He did not say the Word is a floodlight that illuminates everything as far as the eye can see. He said it is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. A lamp unto your feet means enough light for the next step. That is all it is; it is not the whole journey or the destination with every turn mapped out. Most believers are waiting on God to show them the complete picture before they will move. They want to know where it ends before they are willing to start. But that is not how God operates, and it is not what this verse promises. He gives you light for where you are right now. And when you take that step in faith, He gives you light for the next one.
The Word of God functions this way in your life. His Word gives you what you need for what you are facing today. And as you walk in what it says, as you obey the light you have, it continues to light the road ahead. But it will not light a road you have not yet stepped onto. That is not a flaw. That is the design of a faith walk.
When God told me to start this church, start other churches, and establish KBM, I didn’t have all the answers or know how it would happen. I just had to take the step I could and believe God for the rest because walking by faith means every step requires trust. He will never give you everything; if He did, you would not need faith. And without faith it is impossible to please Him.
Here is what trips people up. When God gives them a step before they take it, they are already asking for the next one. And God is saying, "You have not finished the step I gave you yet. Walk it out. Trust it. Be faithful in the light you already have before you start asking for more. The lamp moves with you as you move." This is also why the Word has to be in you consistently.
Practical Application
A lamp only works if it has oil. You have to keep filling yourself with Scripture, not just mining it for the next direction, but meditating on it, letting it get into your spirit, and letting it change how you see. That is what keeps the lamp burning. And a burning lamp always gives enough light for the next step.
