Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently. (1 Peter 1:22)

The Greek word used for fervently in this Scripture is zao, and it carries the meaning of having a hot love, a burning passion that cannot be extinguished. Paul wrote we should love the brethren with great emotion and intensity and with a love that is pure and genuine.

As followers of Christ, our hearts are purified through obedience to the truth of God’s Word and the work of the Holy Spirit. When we are saved, we experience the transformative power of God's love in our lives. Understanding this, we are called to reflect that same love to one another, to the members of the body of Christ, and to whatever work God has called us to.

To love fervently means to have a love that is not lukewarm or half-hearted but deeply passionate and committed. It is a love that is shown through selflessness, sacrifice, and caring for others. It is a love that seeks the well-being and growth of those around you by putting their needs before our own. It is a love that is not contingent upon personal gain or convenience, but flows from a pure heart. It is a love that perseveres through challenges, extends forgiveness, and always seeks reconciliation in difficult relationships.

Today, let’s recommit ourselves to showing fervent love and allow the fire of God's love to burn within us. It’s time to ignite a passion for the people God has placed in our path and to see His Kingdom advance in every area of our lives. When we live this way, we not only fulfill the commandment to love one another but also become vessels through which His love is poured out to a world in desperate need of genuine love.

Practical Application

Be intentional today about serving and blessing others. Look for opportunities to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or meet the practical needs of those around you. This may involve volunteering in your church more regularly, taking part in outreach activities, or simply reaching out to someone. Be the conduit of God’s love to others.
