And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:16-17)
When Jesus prepared His disciples for His departure, He assured them they would not be left alone. He promised another Comforter—the Holy Spirit—who would be their helper, counselor, and constant companion. While Jesus was physically present with them, He comforted and guided them. However, as He was preparing to leave, He assured them that a better Helper would come, the Holy Spirit, who would remain forever. The Holy Spirit, described by Jesus as the "Spirit of truth," is unique because the world cannot receive or understand Him. Why? Because spiritual realities are invisible and intangible to the natural mind. Truth and facts are not always the same.
People can twist a small fact into a false story. In the day and age we live in, it is vitally important for believers to rely on the ministry of the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth in situations. The enemy and the world’s system are intent on deceiving and frustrating believers. But Jesus reassured His followers that they would personally know the Holy Spirit because He would dwell with them and, more intimately, within them. They would hear what He has to say and follow.
Today, you are not alone, regardless of how you might feel. You have an ever-present Helper in a time of need, the Holy Spirit, dwelling within you. When you face challenges, confusion, or moments of loneliness, remember you have immediate access to the great Comforter, the best guide to discern the truth. Instead of relying solely on your wisdom or strength, lean into the comforting and guiding presence of the Holy Spirit.
Practical Application
Acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit by inviting Him into your decisions, whether big or small. Simply say, "Holy Spirit, guide me today,” and be open to following His direction.
