You Are Placed on Purpose

But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body. (1 Corinthians 12:18-20)
God placed you in the church you are in and in the ministry you are involved in within the church, and in opportunities to share the church with others. The Greek word for set is tithēmi, which means to place, appoint, or assign deliberately.
This wasn’t by accident or chance. God chose your gift, your church, and your unique wiring to accomplish something amazing. This means you don’t have to feel envious of someone else’s gift, and you never have to apologize for yours, either. God designed you to manifest His power in specific ways through your gifts, talents, and platforms.
Paul wrote to remind the church that the gifts of the Spirit are for the edification of the Church and the reaching of the world.
These gifts are meant to be quite different. Even the expressions of these gifts through the personality, style, and voice of other believers should sound unique. If every believer had the same gift, the church wouldn’t be a body; it would be a blob. You are where God placed you on purpose. It was no accident that you found your church, and it is no accident that you are serving where you are. There is a purpose from God for how the Spirit uses you.
Practical Application
Stop comparing your ministry, your talent, or your calling to that of others. Rather than complaining, seek ways to make a positive contribution. Instead of fixating on what others do better than you, ask the Holy Spirit, “How do you want me to serve the Body of Christ with what I’ve already been given?”
