Where Faith Begins

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)

Everyone wants the results of faith, but far fewer want to do the one thing that actually produces it. Faith does not come from trying harder or wanting something badly enough. It comes from hearing, specifically the Word of God. That is the starting point, and skipping it is why so many believers struggle to walk in what God has for them.

Healing is only the beginning. God's highest desire for His people is divine health, a walk so settled in the promises of God that sickness has a hard time finding a foothold. But nobody arrives at divine health without first learning to receive healing when needed. And nobody learns to receive healing without hearing the Word on the subject repeatedly, until it moves from information to conviction.

This is why one sermon on healing hardly settles the matter for good. Faith is not built in a single moment of inspiration. It is built the way muscle is built, through consistent exposure over time. The Word has to be heard again and again until what it says becomes more real to you than what your body is telling you. That is not a lack of faith on your part. That is how faith was designed to grow.

Practical Application

Set aside time this week to hear the Word specifically about healing or the promise you are believing for. Do not treat it as a one-time listen. Return to it daily until it settles in you.
