When Jesus Gives You an Impossible Assignment

And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. (Matthew 14:15)

“Send them away” basically meant they thought they had done everything they could and that all hope was lost. Jesus was giving them a task that was much bigger than their current resources. Why? Because God never asks us to do something without giving us the ability to do it, even if we don’t see it yet.

The disciples noticed the problem and the people, but they weren’t paying attention to where their provision was coming from. They let their doubt slip out, telling Jesus to make them go figure it out on their own.

God will never ask you to do something He hasn't already given you the power to do. So if God is involved and it doesn’t seem like you have what you need, God will still make a way using His supernatural resources.

Many times you can’t see how He will do it until it’s already done. This has been my experience in ministry for many years. We didn’t realize how God made it happen until He had already met the need. Faith is trusting God when you don’t see, understand, or know how He will do it.

Those who walk by faith refuse to speak lack, ignore shortages, and instead trust what God says and follow the One who is their provider.

Practical Application

Don’t rush to find your own solutions, even in a “desert moment." Trust that God will multiply what you have as you surrender your way to His will. God has a plan for your life and provides what you need to carry it out.

Mark 6:35; Mark 8:3
