The Unity of the Godhead

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. (Colossians 2:9)

The Bible is clear from the very beginning that God is three different and distinct people. God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy Ghost. In Genesis, God speaks in the plural form stating, “Let us make man in our image.”

Although there is a difference in operation, each member of the godhead operates in the fullness of power. God the Father, Jesus, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all omnipotent; One is not weaker than the others.

Christ didn’t come on this earth as anything less than divine. He isn’t half-God and half-man, He is fully God and fully man. When on this earth, He operated as a man anointed by God, but make no mistake - He was fully God.

Christ has always been full of divinity and did not become deity after some time on this earth, as some religions try to say.

Jesus is also not less God than the Father or the Holy Spirit. Paul wrote Colossians 1:9 to confront a wrong theological standpoint that tried to lessen the power and the authority of Christ.

Even today, many religions teach that Christ was a good man or an enlightened person; they acknowledge He was different but less than God.

Jesus is an essential part of the Triune God and will be so for eternity. He never stopped being God, even during His time of ministry while He was on earth.

Practical Application – Take a moment to thank Jesus for what He has done. Remind yourself that although He was God, He was willing to live and die as a human so that we could be free.
