The Holy Spirit Moves When the Word is Spoken

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (Genesis 1:1-2)

Darkness never stopped God, and it never will. Darkness was simply the backdrop for God to demonstrate how He operates. Even in darkness, the Spirit moved. That means before God spoke a single word, the Holy Ghost was already hovering, already active, already in motion, ready for a word to be declared in faith. Yes, darkness, confusion, and emptiness were there, but the Spirit was not nervous or concerned about that.

That matters for your life because there are seasons when things feel without form or are covered by darkness. You look at your marriage, your finances, your mind, your health, your kids, and it feels like anything but “light.” In fact, sometimes it can feel like a void. And if you are not careful, you might think God has left you or that this situation is too much for Him to handle. But Genesis teaches you that when it looks like nothing is happening, the Spirit is already hovering and moving, waiting for a Word of faith to be released. When God’s Word is spoken, order comes, light appears, and fruitfulness begins in the most unexpected situations.

God did not fix darkness by analyzing it and figuring it out. He fixed it by declaring His Truth by faith. If you want a different outcome, you need to stop agreeing with the darkness and start agreeing with God. You must control your mouth and only speak the Word. The Holy Spirit is moving, but you have to align your words with God’s truth to see change. God and man were designed to work together. He gave man dominion. He expects words of faith to fill the earth from the mouths of believers.

Practical Application

Stop constantly talking about your problems. Instead, begin to ask yourself, “What has God said about this area of my life?” Study the Word, find it in the Word, and then speak that. Pray in the Holy Ghost and then speak the Word. Let the Holy Spirit hover and let the Word frame the changes you need.
