Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44)

Jesus revealed a powerful contrast between light and darkness, and truth and deception. Jesus let us know the significance and seriousness of choosing truth over deceit and righteousness over wickedness.
Lying is not something Christians should engage in at all. Every lie spoken is a product of the devil. When we engage in falsehood, we open the door for the enemy to have influence in our lives. This harsh truth challenges us to examine our own hearts and confront the areas where deception may have taken root. We must strive to align ourselves with the Spirit of Truth—the Holy Ghost—and reject the lies of the enemy.
The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy. However, as believers, we have the power to discern and reject his lies through the indwelling Holy Spirit.
As followers of Christ, we are called to reject the lies of the enemy and follow the truth found in the Word of God. God wants to use you as a vessel of His truth in a world plagued by deception and defeat. It is through a genuine relationship with Jesus and an understanding of His Word that we find freedom from the need to lie and from the harm and emotional hold of lies that were spoken in our past.
Practical Application
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you any areas where you have allowed the father of lies to have influence. Decide to walk in the truth and choose righteousness over wickedness.
