Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. (Genesis 12:1-4)

Abram, later known as Abraham, received a specific word from the Lord, setting him apart for a unique purpose. God also has a specific rhema word for you that sets you up for what He wants you to do and how He wants to use you in this season.

Just as God had a specific assignment for Abraham, He has one for you and me as well. The Word of God in the Greek is known as the logos, meaning the written Word. It contains many promises and principles that can help anyone’s life if they follow them. But something amazing happens to believers when we read the Word. The Holy Spirit makes certain points of Scripture come alive for us and what once was logos becomes rhema - the spoken, revelatory Word of the God. God’s rhema words will change the course of your life. When we receive these words from the Lord, it ignites faith in our hearts, enabling us to fulfill the God-given task.

Sometimes we may not immediately grasp the full extent of God's calling for us. Like Abraham, we might receive glimpses of our purpose in stages. It is crucial to remain attentive and sensitive to the Holy Spirit's leading, so we don't miss out on His direction. Obeying God's rhema word might lead us on paths that, to many, seem unconventional or nonsensical. Abraham faced ridicule and opposition when he followed God's calling, but he remained full of faith, knowing he had received something specific from God Himself.

Practical Application

Spend intentional time this week seeking God's specific rhema word for your life. As you read the Word, be sensitive to what the Holy Spirit is saying. Once you receive God's rhema word, step out in faith and obedience. Trust that God will provide for you as you walk in His calling.
