Praying Secrets You Do Not Know

For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. (1 Corinthians 14:2)

There are prayers you cannot pray with your mind because you lack enough information. You can be sincere to God and still not know what to ask for. You can love God and still be blind to the root of an issue, so you end up praying only about the symptoms. That is why God gave believers a supernatural prayer language. Tongues are not just emotional noise; they are Spirit-enabled communication with God. Paul wrote that when you speak in an unknown tongue, you are not speaking to men; you are speaking directly to God without interference. That means tongues are not for impressing others with how spiritual you are or to win arguments. They are for communion with God.

He also said that when we speak in tongues, we speak mysteries. The Greek word musterion means hidden things or secrets. Think about that. Your spirit can pray beyond what your mind understands and in agreement with Heaven’s perfect plan.

Faith is not merely positive thinking. Faith is agreement with God’s Word. Praying in tongues is one of the purest forms of agreement because the Holy Spirit supplies the utterance. You are not relying on your mental strength; you are relying on the Spirit’s intercession.

Also, when you pray in tongues, you edify yourself. You strengthen the inner man. A weak spirit makes you reactionary. A strong spirit makes you steady in God’s truth. Many believers are tired because they are trying to fight spiritual battles with natural strength.

Practical Application

Tongues recharge the believer, empowering us to move forward in power. This is why the enemy resists it so fiercely. If he can make you believe that tongues are strange, optional, or pointless, he can keep you praying only with your natural understanding. He can leave you vulnerable in areas where you needed Heaven’s perfect strategy but were unaware of it naturally. Therefore, pray in tongues every day and declare God's will into your life and future.

Acts 10:46; Psalm 49:3
