Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. (Philippians 1:11)

The Greek word for being filled in this verse is plēroō, which means to be jam-packed or bursting at the seams, so full that there’s no room for anything else. When God’s righteousness fills you, there's no room left for bitterness, pride, or fear.

Paul also explained that these fruits come from Jesus Christ. This means you don’t produce them through sheer willpower. Instead, you produce them because you’re connected to the vine. It’s not about trying harder; it’s about digging deeper and being more rooted and focused on Him.

What are the fruits of righteousness? They are the fruits of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23. These are the visible signs that the Holy Spirit is alive and working in us.

Now, this verse appears in the middle of Paul’s list of prayers for believers to pray. We are called to speak these things into existence. God acts in the world because He is asked. The deeper you go in prayer, the more your spirit becomes fertile ground. Righteousness grows in a life where the Word is spoken, the Spirit is welcomed, and prayer waters the soil.

The more time you spend in prayer, the more love, joy, peace, and power flow from you. As a believer, you have authority on this earth. You cause change in situations because of the time you spend in prayer in your secret place. When your life is filled with the fruit of righteousness, the world doesn’t just see a Christian; they see the glory of God.

Practical Application

Allow your prayer time to deepen. Advance your intercession. Don’t just check off boxes in your prayer life, but seek to understand God’s heart and use the authority He gives you. The more you pray, the more the Holy Spirit is able to intervene.
