Not Yet Doesn't Mean Not Ever

Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.   But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. (Matthew 15:21-23)

A Canaanite woman came, crying out to Jesus for her daughter. Imagine the volume and emotion with which she approached Him. At first, He didn't answer her a word. His disciples grew uncomfortable with how persistently she kept at it and began pressuring Him to send her away. On the surface, that felt like rejection. But something bigger was going on in that silence than it seemed to say. Jesus had said that His ministry on earth went first to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

That wasn't favoritism, and it wasn't a door slammed in this woman's face. It was the order of God's plan of redemption. Israel would be first, so the message could then be carried to everybody else. That's the pattern we see in Acts 1:8. The power would come upon the disciples to be witnesses, starting in Jerusalem and spreading to the ends of the earth. The order mattered. But the order was never the same as a permanent “no”.

Maybe you are praying for something you haven’t seen the results of yet. Silence can feel like rejection. But God's timing is part of a plan bigger than what you can see in any single moment. In Matthew 15, the woman who approached Jesus didn't take the silence as her final answer, and you don't have to either. A pause in the story isn't a closed door. What feels like "no" is often just "not yet," waiting for its right place in the sequence.

Practical Application

If you haven’t heard from God yet about an area you've been praying about, don't read it as a no. Keep pressing in today. Trust that the timing belongs to God.
