Long Life

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. (Psalm 91:15-16)

Psalm 91 begins with protection but ends with satisfaction. The word satisfy means “to fill to the full, to overflow, to leave no longing unmet.” God’s goal is not just to keep you alive but to keep you fruitful, fulfilled, and full of His glory until you decide that you are ready to go to Heaven and your purpose is complete.

Notice how verse 15 starts with God promising to answer our calls. There’s no voicemail in Heaven; there is no “please hold” or “I’ll get back to you later.” When you call on God, He promises to answer, especially when you find yourself in trouble. God is not intimidated by how severe the situation is. He also doesn’t promise that there won’t be fire; He promises that even if there is, He will stand with you in it. That’s why Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out without the smell of smoke. The fourth man in the fire was the same voice speaking here. The end of that story was that the three Hebrew boys weren’t just saved; they were given positions of honor. That’s what God promises those who follow Him in Psalm 91: “I will deliver him, and honor him.” The word honor here means “to make weighty, to glorify, to enrich with value.” God plans to not only deliver you from trouble but also restore both your freedom and your favor.

The final promise God makes in these verses relates to the length of your life on earth. Long life is not by chance; it is a promise from God based on our relationship with Him. Long life belongs to those who walk closely with God, trust His Word, and follow His guidance. The end of your life should not be determined by suffering, but by your harmony with God. You are called to live until you and God agree that it’s time to go.

Practical Application

Don’t settle for God just helping you get through a problem. Expect that God’s deliverance will also come with honor. Additionally, refuse to let the language of decline come out of your mouth. Declare every day that God intends to satisfy you with a long life. The words you speak will either align with His promise or hinder your blessing.
